A little rain and wind didn’t stop us from kicking off the season in style with our good friends at Counter Kultur. Spring Breakdown has grown to be that first big weekend of the year that all of the region brings their cars out, gets back together with their car friends, and enjoys the laid back atmosphere. This year Mother Nature didn’t want to cooperate with us, but the cars and people still came out in large numbers – and our last minute decision to put the show field on pavement instead of the lawn paid off big time
We set the stage for the day – literally – front and center of the parking lot. And we are pretty sure that no other show can claim a stage as fine as ours – as our local homie Josh “Tallboy” brought out his ATSC.world Best of Show winning rig out from Lanita Specialties to the show for DJ Takeover to do his thing.
We like to keep the grassroots atmosphere at this show. So we feature a rare parts and general swap meet area. This year our friends at Kohl’s German Auto sponsored the swap meet.
Spring Breakdown doesn’t just feature a swap meet area for the spectators to shop. We also have a growing vendor midway, as this year we had more vendors than any other Breakdown event in the past.
This year we put together a Surprise JunkFood Meet Pop-up area, as three of our regular JunkFood Meet vendors brought the flavor out. It offered a great alternative to the general concessions available at the fair grounds, but it also created a cool sneak peak at what can be enjoyed later on this summer and fall as our event schedule rolls on.
We had some of the scene’s heavy hitters stop by to showcase some truly impressive builds. This is what it’s truly all about… spring time is the time to get behind the wheel and enjoy all the hard work and time put into projects.
We also had a ton of cool, unique stuff on display. We love to see all the rare and vintage builds.
Another unique aspect of Spring Breakdown is how the community collaborates with us on the event production. This year we had 3 new awards presented outside of our regular Top 25 and Specialties. DJ Takeover and Borderline Customs presented their “Cool Choice Award” , which was a custom cooler filled with gift certificates and googies. Drop of Ink Tattoo presented their “Outstanding Build Award”, which was some impressive hardware and also came along with a gift certificate for tattoos. Our good friend Ray Bradshaw also presented the “StarBows Stand Out Award” in honor of one of the homies that we lost not too long ago. And as always, Austin from Billetworkz came thru for us creating some cool “breakdown” themed acrylic awards. Our Best of Show award continued in an old tradition of presenting a custom painted skate deck to the winner… Eddie from Chunky Monkey Paintworks absolutely killed it with the hand painted lettering and psychedelic design.
Cars, parts, and food are cool. But these events are mostly all about the people we’ve met along the way. Old friends and new faces alike – we enjoy putting on events because we enjoy creating a place where people can interact with each other, catch up on old times, or just take the time to have fun and put away whatever stress they may have in their day-to-day.
But you know we are really just here for the dogs. Thanks to the humans for bringing out the pups for a great day!
We couldn’t be more pleased with the way show season and the spring was kicked off for us. We’ve got plenty more in store this year. Next stop for the brand is ACES – Atlantic City Enthusiast Summit – as we recently hosted the Lifestyle Lounge at the event. We turnt the old House of Blues Poker Room bar into our booth and had some really cool cars posted up with us. Next official event for the brand though will be The JunkFood Meet on the Harrisburg, PA Riverfront. You already know it’s gonna be a vibe. Enjoy the rest of the Spring Breakdown photo set, shot by our main man @becker_junkstyles. Cheers!
